Expression of chemokine mRNA in HASTs upon stimulation with Stx2. The expressions of IL-8 (a) and MCP-1 (b) mRNA was examined by real-time quantitative PCR using HASTs treated with 10−10 to 10−9 mol/L Stx2 for 8 or 24 h. The levels of induction of IL-8 and MCP-1 mRNA were calculated relative to the control cultures. Data are expressed as fold increases of mRNA (mean ± SD from five independent experiments). Comparisons were made between the levels of IL-8 and MCP-1 mRNA elicited by Stx2 and those of the untreated controls. and .
