Resident Corneal Cells Communicate with Neutrophils Leading to the Production of IP-10 during the Primary Inflammatory Response to HSV-1 Infection

CXCR2 and CXCR3 mRNA are detected in the infected cornea at 2 and 6 days post infection respectively. Mice ( ) were challenged by intrastromal injection with PFU HSV-1 and corneas were harvested on the days indicated post infection. Control mice were uninfected and corneas from this group represented the level of constitutive mRNA production for each receptor. Total RNA was isolated from each group and converted to cDNA which was analyzed by real-time PCR. Upregulation in mRNA for each receptor is reported as the fold increase over production in uninfected control corneas.
