Mesothelial surface from rats 12 h after insufflation with heated humidified CO2 for 2 h at 5 mm/Hg (group 4). The cells are tightly apposed with cytoplasmic projections (microvilli) prominent (arrows). While some rounding of the cells is evident (open arrow), overall this group showed the least effects from the induced environment: (a) original ×650; (b) original ×3500.
