Effect of Aging Time and Film Thickness on the Photoelectrochemical Properties of TiO2 Sol-Gel Photoanodes

Tauc plot [25] of SG/1 layer/6 h photoelectrode. The indirect band-gap extrapolated from the plot is 3.21 ± 0.08 eV. An additional tail for a sub-band-gap of 2.9 ± 0.06 eV is also present. This indicates the presence of oxygen vacancies (shallow donors) within the photoanodes and explains the small IPCE signal observed for the photoelectrodes above 400 nm.
