Atomic Layer Deposition of TiO2 Nanocoatings on ZnO Nanowires for Improved Photocatalytic Stability

Figure 2

A hybrid ALD/hydrothermal process is used to fabricate the TiO2@ZnO nanowires. ZnO nanowires are grown hydrothermally. First, a quantum dot seed layer is formed on the surface of an oxidized silicon wafer. The seed layer forms the basis upon which the nanowires grow. Next, the wafer is submerged into Zn-rich growth solution for 8 hours at 250°F; nanowire height can be tuned via growth time. Finally, the ZnO nanowires are coated with TiO2 using ALD.
