Description

The conversion of solar energy in electric energy using photovoltaic (PV) systems is one of the best and most commonly used types of renewable energy sources. Although PV technology is mature, continuous improvement of its performance, reliability, and cost are necessary for wide-scale adoption of PV.

There are several factors and parameters influencing the development and performance of PV devices and systems. The advance of the PV modelling and simulation tools on the one hand, and measurements, monitoring, and analysis procedures on the other, for different types and locations for PV systems, can lead to improvement of their performance. Additionally, these results can be used successfully for designing and identifying the best solutions for the new photovoltaic installations.

This Special Issue is addressed to researchers and academics who work in this dynamic, interesting, and promising domain. Both original research and review articles are welcome.

Potential topics include but are not limited to the following:

  • Analytical methods and metaheuristic algorithms to extract photovoltaic cells and panels parameters
  • The influence of solar radiation spectrum distribution on the performance of photovoltaic panels
  • The influence of irradiance and temperature on the performance of photovoltaic panels
  • Cooling methods for photovoltaic panels
  • Shadow influence on PV system performance and solutions to limit shadowing effects
  • The influence of the PV system components on the performance of the system
  • Maximum power point tracking (MPPT) methods to increase efficiency of photovoltaic systems
  • Prediction of the energy generated by PV systems
  • Energy yield and performance ratio of photovoltaic systems
  • Photovoltaic systems reliability
  • Inspection of large photovoltaic systems
  • Costs and feed-in tariff for different types of PV systems
