Exercise in Children during Health and Sickness

Description

The human body is capable of increasing speed and strength to levels that are several times greater than at complete stillness. Such capacity for increased physical activities is essential for the organism's survival and important for enjoyment of life and maintenance of well being.

Exercise is a purposefully structured and often repetitious form of increased physical activity. It requires coordinated and complex responses from several body systems and organs and can be affected by disease processes which involve such systems and organs. Physical activity can also trigger or manifest certain disease processes.

There are numerous distinctions between children and adults in regards to exercise physiology and pathophysiology. Moreover, the nature and intensity of exercise activity during childhood may drastically influence health during adulthood. We call for papers that address all aspects of exercise during childhood which include, but are not limited to:

  • Normal exercise physiology in children and its differences from exercise physiology in adults
  • Effect of exercise or the lack of it during childhood on health maintenance and prevention of disease both short term and long term
  • Effect of chronic illnesses on exercise capacity during childhood
  • Effect of exercise on children with chronic diseases
  • Pathophysiology and treatment of exercise-induced disease processes
