The glucan preparation was methylated before being hydrolysed, reduced, and acetylated. Therefore, the methylated sugars mentioned refer to permethylated alditol acetates identified by GC–MS (e.g., 2,3,4,6-O-Me4-D-glucose refers to 1,5-di-O-acetyl-2,3,4,6-tetra-O-methyl-D-glucitol).
