Mathematical and Numerical Modeling in Geotechnical Engineering

Description

Mathematical and numerical modeling is a mature yet vibrant research area in geotechnical engineering. Its advancement has been accelerated in recent years by many emerging computational techniques as well as the increasing availability of computational power. A wide spectrum of approaches, on the basis of continuously advancing understanding of soil behavior, have been developed and applied to solve various problems in geotechnical engineering. These methods are increasingly playing important roles not only in achieving better understanding of fundamental behavior of geomaterials and geostructures, but also in ensuring the safety and sustainability of large-scale complex geoengineering projects.

We invite authors to contribute original research articles as well as review articles on mathematical and numerical modeling in geotechnical engineering. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Constitutive models for soil and soil-structure interface
  • Analytical solution or semianalytical solutions for geotechnical engineering problems
  • New numerical methods in geomechanics and geotechnical engineering
  • Modeling of coupled processes and multiphysics
  • Combined use of mathematical/numerical method and experimental method
  • Novel applications of mathematical and numerical modeling in geotechnical engineering

Papers in relation to the application of cutting-edge concepts and methods to mathematical/ numerical modeling of geomechanics and geotechnical engineering, such as multiscale analysis and calculation, multiphase coupling, and parallel computing are particularly welcome.
