The effects of ovariectomy (ovx) and 17β-estradiol (ovx + E₂) on body composition in rats with initial ages of five and ten months. Ovariectomy induced a significant increase in total fat mass and a decrease in bone mineral density in both age groups and a decrease in lean mass in the older group. E₂ administration prevented ovx-induced alterations in body composition.
