Intelligent Traffic Management System Based on the Internet of Vehicles (IoV)

Table 4

Abbreviations in the figures.

Optimal algorithmMaximum number of vehicles that can be serviced (crossing the intersection). This is a function of the service time and the traffic density. It can be calculated using: , where N is the total arrived vehicles, T is the total simulated period, and s is the vehicle service time.

FTFixed-time algorithm. To evaluate the effectiveness of our proposed ITMS, fixed-time traffic light control (FT). Traffic lights are cycled in a fixed phase sequence with a fixed duration of each phase. It is one of the most widely used traffic control policies in the real world.
PAThe proposed algorithm as described in Section 4.
AWTAverage waiting time of all the arrived vehicles during the total simulated period.
