Safe Operation of Public Transport in Extreme Environments

Description

The safe operation of public transport in extreme environments includes the operation modes and strategies of highways, railway, and subways in extreme environments such as rainstorms, lightning, earthquake, and typhoons, with the purpose of ensuring travel efficiency, reducing operation losses and ensuring passenger life safety.

In recent years, with the change of global climate, extreme weather (e.g., rainstorms, earthquakes, lightning, and typhoons) has also appeared increasingly frequently, especially flood and debris flow caused by heavy rainfall, which has a great impact on the safe operation of public transport. In addition, as people pay increasing attention to traffic safety, economy, and other indicators, traffic operation modes, strategies, and methods need further reform and innovation.

This Special Issue aims to deepen our understanding of the safety of public transport operations in extreme environments and explore how to deal with the problems in public transport operations in various extreme environments. We call for novel contributions and cutting-edge research by using different application technologies, mathematical modeling, big data analysis, and other methods to deal with the safety problems and challenges of public transport operation in extreme environments and will accept both original research and review articles.

Potential topics include but are not limited to the following:

  • Impact of extreme environments on public transport safety operations
  • Research on public transport safety operation methods and strategies
  • Quantifying traffic safety, supply and demand, and economic benefits from shared mobility
  • Research on prediction methods related to extreme environments
  • Mathematical modeling and safety analysis under different public transport environments
  • Study and simulate the safety, travel efficiency, and economic benefits brought by different public transport operations in extreme environments
