Cooperative Systems for Autonomous Vehicles
Description
This special issue aims to present issues related to networked intervehicular interactions with infrastructure. Aiming particularly at cooperative autonomous driving we are pleased to welcome and to encourage prospective authors to contribute with manuscripts reporting on original research in the different fields concerning Cooperative ITS (C-ITS).
Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) are responsible for, among other things, providing technology to improve the operation, management, and safety of land transport in urban, interurban, and rural roads. With the current interest in the development of autonomous vehicles, Cooperative ITS (C-ITS) can be considered as catalysts of these technologies and their implementation by adding distributed perception, decision, and additional actions supported by communications, aiming at the cooperative autonomous driving.
In the recent literature, many significant contributions to this topic have been provided. This special issue aims at creating a multidisciplinary forum for the discussion on recent advances related to new applications such as exploring the benefit of adding C-ITS to existing autonomous vehicle systems, including novel applications that will rise; analysis of driver behavior in automatic-manual transitions of vehicles equipped with these systems and traditional vehicles sharing the road with autonomous vehicles; integration of the cooperative autonomous driving in complex scenarios.
Potential topics include but are not limited to the following:
- Cooperative systems
- Autonomous driving
- Cooperative planning and decision-making systems
- Advanced perception systems
- Sensorial fusion
- Human factors
- Driver modelling
- V2X communications
- Shared autonomous and conventional traffic
