Sustainable and Resilient Transport Infrastructure

Description

Transport infrastructure is the lifeline of a modern economy and significantly contributes to economic growth and our well-being. Transport infrastructure is not only about moving people and goods, but also an essential part of the continued economic growth and social development of countries. Our transport infrastructure is increasingly complex and subject to a range of hazards or failures. A sustainable and resilient transport infrastructure provides access to different services with minimum social, economic, and environmental impacts and is able to withstand disruption and absorb disturbance under extreme events and in disasters by adapting to changing conditions.

This special issue aims at identifying and discussing the range of challenges that are faced in delivering safe, sustainable, and smart transport infrastructure at normal conditions, during extreme events and in disasters. This special issue also aims at introducing innovative approaches and strategies to design and preserve a sustainable and resilient transport infrastructure.

Potential topics include but are not limited to the following:

  • Transport infrastructure maintenance and management
  • Sustainable road and rail infrastructure
  • Road and rail design for resilient and safe transport
  • Planning, design, and operations of transport infrastructure under extreme events
  • Planning, design, and operations of transport infrastructure in disaster
  • infrastructure and active transport
