Road Traffic Research in Smart City Transport Systems and Networks 2022

Description

Due to the changes in the world in 2020, road traffic performance as well as transport systems in the cities have changed. These changes have had an impact on the lives of almost all people around the world and have strongly influenced and continue to affect many areas of the economy, including road transport, transport behaviour, city traffic patterns and transport systems.

Travel restrictions introduced in 2020 have resulted in sharp drops in traffic volumes across all transportation systems. When communities in different countries around the world begin to reopen and try to return to their original way of functioning, it is important to know how the transport behaviour of city dwellers will change, how traffic volumes in cities will change due to the decline in the use of certain means of transport, how such changes will affect driving times, how will share mobility systems function in conditions of human reluctance to use crowded transport services, etc. This type of information is crucial for traffic management and travel planners. Moreover, the advantages of working remotely are likely to cause some employees to continue working in this way, which will also contribute to long-term spatial and temporal changes in road traffic volumes. It is also interesting to learn about the changes in the use of road transport infrastructure elements or aspects related to road traffic safety issues.

This Special Issue welcomes original research and review articles addressing all aspects related to road traffic performance and transport systems in the cities after 2020.

Potential topics include but are not limited to the following:

  • Traffic flow patterns
  • Mode sharing and different users of transport systems
  • Human factor changes in road traffic and transportation engineering
  • Road traffic measurements, monitoring systems, data analyzing, data mining, and big data in transportation
  • Traffic congestion and road traffic safety challenges
  • Challenges for transport systems in cities
  • Micro, meso, and macro modelling, optimization and simulation models, and road traffic forecasting
  • Innovative public transport solutions, sustainable parking management and policies, shared mobility solutions, and on-demand mobility
  • Intelligent Transportation Systems, traffic control, and management challenges
  • Environmental impacts of transportation systems after 2020
  • Eco-friendly mobility
  • Transport infrastructure solutions
  • AV/CAV road infrastructure adaptations
