<div>Wittig reaction of 3-formyl-4-quinolones 2a–c with nonstabilized ylides 4a–c to prepare the 3-substituted 4-quinolones 7a–c, e, g, and 8d, f. aCompound 7c obtained starting from ethyl 3-formyl-6-methoxy-4-quinolone-1-carboxylate 2c. bThe yield of 8d was not determined because the low amount of isolated compound presented some contamination with phosphine oxide formed in the reaction.</div>
