Control of Electrical Power Systems and Equipment

Call for Papers

The electrical power system is undergoing a revolution. Advances in telecommunication and power electronics equipment have resulted in rapid deployment in the electrical power system. In the smart grid initiative, a two-way communication system is intertwined with the physical electrical power system, and this opens new doors for improved control and performance of the electrical network. Coupled with this, the desire to integrate renewable energy systems and to increase energy efficiency has resulted in power electronic equipment becoming more prevalent throughout the electrical power systems. Control systems for the electrical power system and associated devices must be well designed in order to ensure robust stability, optimality, and reliable operation in its environment. The proliferation of controllable equipment in the system may result in coordination issues, and it is important to ensure that undesirable control interactions do not occur. The control system must also minimise potential detrimental impacts equipment may have on the power system.

For the successful integration and operation and to obtain maximum benefit, the control system of equipment must be carefully engineered. The Journal of Control Science and Engineering is pleased to invite prospective authors to submit original research submissions covering innovations in control of electrical power systems and equipment.

Potential topics include but are not limited to the following:

  • Analysis techniques for modelling controlled electrical power systems and devices
  • Lyapunov stability analysis of the power system and the design of stable adaptive controllers
  • Control based on approximate linearization for hybrid and switched power applications
  • Lyapunov theory-based control of power converters for robust performance
  • Global linearization-based control and other nonlinear state estimators for smart grids
  • Nonlinear optimal control and algorithms for the control of microgrids, renewables, storage, and the power system
  • Control of electric power systems using feedback linearization techniques
  • Model-free adaptive control methods for power systems
  • Optimization, game theory, and nonlinear optimal control approaches for the smart grid
  • Intelligent control
