Low Levels of Serum Paraoxonase Activities are Characteristic of Metabolic Syndrome and May Influence the Metabolic-Syndrome-Related Risk of Coronary Artery Disease

DEPCyMCase activity (a), HDL cholesterol (b), and apolipoprotein A-I concentration (c) according to high/low HDL cholesterol levels and metabolic syndrome (MS) diagnosis (b). Low HDL-cholesterol concentrations are defined on the basis of ATP-III criteria for MS-diagnosis, that is, <1.03 mmol/L for males or <1.29 mmol/L for females. Significantly lower than no-MS with high or low HDL ( by Tukey post-hoc comparison). Significantly lower than high HDL with or without MS ( by Tukey post-hoc comparison).
