Representative confocal immunofluorescence images of -AR and -smooth muscle actin (-SMA) in the glomeruli of ZL and ZD rats. In normal control, colocalization of -AR (green) with -SMA (dark blue) was apparent in the renal vasculature (white arrow), whereas weak staining of -AR was detected in the glomeruli. An increase in -AR staining in the diabetic glomeruli was accompanied by an increase in -SMA signal.
