Reducing Caloric Intake Prevents Ischemic Injury and Myocardial Dysfunction and Affects Anesthetic Cardioprotection in Type 2 Diabetic Rats

Experimental protocol. Rats were fed a control diet (CD) or western diet with sucrose water (WD) for 8 weeks. A third group of WD-fed rats reversed after 4 weeks to CD for 4 consecutive weeks (REV) (a). After 8 weeks of diet exposure, animals underwent left coronary artery occlusion for 40 min followed by 120 min of reperfusion without (MI) or with  min sevoflurane (s) exposure (MI + SEVO) (b).
