Association of Markers of Proinflammatory Phenotype and Beige Adipogenesis with Metabolic Syndrome in Chinese Centrally Obese Adults

Serum levels of C-reactive protein (CRP), interleukin-6 (IL-6), and irisin of Chinese subjects categorized by central obesity (CO) and metabolic syndrome (MetS) according to the IDF worldwide definition (). There were significantly higher serum CRP () and IL-6 levels ( and ), but lower irisin levels ( and ), in MetS versus non-MetS subjects. However, there was no significant difference in serum CRP, IL-6, and irisin levels between CO and non-CO, non-MetS cases.
