The Experimental and Clinical Aspects of Beta Cell Function and Its Underlying Mechanism

Description

Diabetes is becoming a serious health problem all over the world. The natural history of type 2 diabetes is characterized by progressive loss of beta cell function, which is hardly reversible and hereby causing fragile hyperglycemia and chronic complications. Increase of our knowledge of underlying mechanism for beta cell function modulation will finally lead to fundamental changes in treatment strategies for the prevention and intervention of the disease. We invite investigators to submit original researches and review articles concerning β cell function and its molecular mechanism. We are also interested in clinical efforts related to early intervention of type 2 diabetes or preservation of β cell function. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Mechanisms of β cell regeneration and death in diabetes
  • Novel regulators of β cell functions
  • Intraislet interaction of β cell, α cell, and δ cell
  • Recent clinical technologies for pancreatic β cell evaluation
  • Recent advances in pancreatic β cell preservation
  • Stem cells and transplantation in diabetes
  • Early intervention of diabetes and its long-term outcomes

Before submission authors should carefully read over the journal’s Author Guidelines, which are located at http://www.hindawi.com/journals/jdr/guidelines/. Prospective authors should submit an electronic copy of their complete manuscript through the journal Manuscript Tracking System at http://mts.hindawi.com/submit/journals/jdr/ecca/ according to the following timetable:
