Diabetes and Cancer: Epidemiological, Clinical, and Experimental Perspectives
Description
Diabetes is a major cause of death in many countries due to its increasing incidence, high prevalence, and clinical manifestation of a variety of micro- and macrovascular complications if not appropriately treated. Recent studies have shown that diabetic patients may also have a higher risk of cancer, the first killer that threatens the lives of thousands of millions of people.
The clarification of the link between these two important diseases, new development in clinical technologies and medications for the management and improvement of the survival of cancer patients in diabetic and nondiabetic individuals, and the understanding of the basic mechanisms are urgently needed for the prevention of the diseases and the provision of better care to the patients.
We welcome original as well as review articles on the relationship between diabetes and cancer in epidemiological, clinical, and experimental perspectives in this special issue. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:
- Epidemiological studies on the link between diabetes and cancer
- Clinical analyses on the impact of diabetes to treatment outcomes and prognosis
- New technologies and medications for cancer treatment, with special focus on the diabetic patients
- Researches into molecular mechanisms to explain the potential link between diabetes and cancer risk
- Critical reviews on the above topics
- Cole of obesity in cancer and diabetes
- Role of inflammation in cancer and diabetes
