Environmental-friendly Buildings and Infrastructures Towards the SDGs 2030

Description

The United Nations endorsed the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in 2015, which establishes seventeen Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to end poverty, protect the planet, and improve the lives and prospects of everyone, everywhere by 2030. Buildings and infrastructures have a significant impact on the environment and public health, which are closely associated with several SDGs including clean water and sanitation (SDG 6), affordable and clean energy (SDG 7), industry, innovation, and infrastructure (SDG 9), and sustainable cities and communities (SDG 11).

Therefore, enhancing the sustainability of buildings and infrastructures is essential to achieve global sustainable development. Environmental-friendly buildings and infrastructures refer to buildings and infrastructures where the resource conservation is maximized and environmental impact throughout the whole project life cycle are reduced, thereby providing residents and users with healthy, comfortable, and efficient spaces in harmony with nature. Developing environmental-friendly buildings and infrastructures is the essential path towards sustainable construction and the whole SDGs 2030.

This Special Issue is a platform to share the latest insights about the effects of buildings and infrastructures on environmental sustainability and public health, especially insights related to new theories, data, variables, models, and sites. This Special Issue aims to solicit relevant research and provide scholars and industry practitioners with a timely opportunity to discuss, share, and disseminate current innovations in environmental-friendly buildings and infrastructures towards SDGs 2030. Authors are invited to present original research and review articles that will stimulate the continuing efforts in this field. We hope that this Special Issue proposes the techniques, directions, strategies, and solutions to enhance the environmental sustainability of buildings and infrastructures, contributing to global sustainable development.

Potential topics include but are not limited to the following:

  • Environmental-friendly construction materials and engineering structures towards the SDGs 2030
  • Sustainable construction management towards the SDGs 2030
  • Environmental-friendly buildings and infrastructures that contribute to public health
  • Public attitudes towards environmental-friendly buildings and infrastructures
  • Transition pathways towards carbon neutrality of the built environment
  • Life cycle assessments of environmental-friendly buildings and infrastructures
  • Environmental and social impacts of new infrastructures (e.g., 5G base stations, data centers, and high-speed rails)
  • Decision-making systems supporting planning, design, construction, and operation of environmental-friendly buildings and infrastructures
