Sulforaphane Upregulates Cultured Mouse Astrocytic Aquaporin-4 Expression through p38 MAPK Pathway

Effect of SFN on morphological changes in cultured mouse astrocytes. (a) Immunofluorescence showed morphological changes of cultured astrocytes treated with 0, 1, and 5 μM SFN. The cultured astrocytes were vigorously proliferated with larger cell bodies and a greater number of astrocytic processes treated with 1 μM SFN and showed a shrinking cell body size when treated with 5 μM SFN. (b, c) Quantitative analysis for GFAP (b) and AQP4 (c) staining of astrocytes. Results showed enhanced GFAP and AQP4 immunofluorescence staining when treated with 1 μM SFN. When treated with 5 μM SFN, they showed decreased GFAP and AQP4 immunofluorescence staining, however with no significant difference compared to the vehicle group. .
