Vision Based Computing Systems for Healthcare Applications

Description

Digitization in modern society has led to large scale generation of visual data. Such visual information has been exploited to develop many state-of-the-art systems. The healthcare organizations have been generating huge amount of digital data over the past decades. Such biomedical data need to be organized, processed, and analyzed to extract relevant information. Robust and efficient techniques for image classification, feature extraction, and image retrieval are of paramount importance to imaging based healthcare applications. Behavioral analysis systems such as affective computing, cognitive analysis, expression analysis, and activity recognition have widespread applications in biomedical and healthcare industries.

Static and temporal visual information can also be exploited to develop sophisticated healthcare systems based on deep learning, object detection, and tracking. Many such applications require real time analysis, for which dimensionality reduction techniques play an essential role.

The purpose of this special issue is to publish recent advances in development of vision based techniques for healthcare. The research articles must address the problems usually encountered in this field of research

Potential topics include but are not limited to the following:

  • 2D/3D/4D medical image/video feature extraction and classification
  • 2D/3D/4D medical/video image retrieval
  • Deep learning based systems for healthcare applications (detection and tracking, recognition systems, etc.)
  • Image/video based behaviour analysis/profiling (action recognition and/or prediction, macro/micro expression analysis, etc.).
