Oral Tolerance Induced by Transfer of Food Antigens via Breast Milk of Allergic Mothers Prevents Offspring from Developing Allergic Symptoms in a Mouse Food Allergy Model

Effects of the maternal exposure to food antigens during lactation and the maternal allergic status on Th1 and Th2 cytokine profiles in the proximal colons of offspring with FA. The mRNA expression levels of IL-4 were completely reduced to the naïve mice range in offspring breastfed by OVA-exposed mothers during lactation, but IFN-γ mRNA expression levels were not altered by the maternal exposure to food antigens and the maternal allergic status.
