Low-Dose Amphotericin B and Murine Dialyzable Spleen Extracts Protect against Systemic Candida Infection in Mice

Figure 1

Effect of low-dose AmB and mDSE on murine systemic candidiasis. (a) Mice were infected with the indicated amounts of Ca07-387 blastospores and were observed for 30 days. Data from two independent experiments were used. (b) Different concentrations of AmB were administered to mice that had received 5 × 105 CFU of Ca07-387. (c) Mice that had received 5 × 105 CFU of Ca07-387 were treated with 10 pg of mDSE, alone or in combination with 0.1 mg/kg of AmB. Data from two different experiments were used. (d) Kidney fungal burdens (CFU/g) each point represents mean and SD of three mice. In (d), the dotted line indicates the assay detection limit (<50 CFU) (** ; *** , AmB versus AmB + mDSE), ( , mDSE versus Infected no Tx), ( , mDSE versus AmB), ( , mDSE versus AmB + mDSE), ( , Infected no Tx versus AmB), ( , Infected no Tx versus AmB + mDSE).
