Elimination phase: immune effector cells are recruited and tumors are destroyed; equilibrium phase: cells that survive elimination undergo chronic maintenance and genetic adaptation in an immunosuppressive environment; escape phase: the tumor microenvironment becomes immunosuppressive and cancer becomes poorly immunogenic.
