Combination of two doublet multiplicity hydrogen atoms (H, shown on the left and right of the graphic) yields singlet multiplicity molecular hydrogen (H2, shown in the center of the graphic). Multiplicity is defined as , where is the total spin number. Constructive overlap of the two antisymmetric 1s SOAOs of the H atoms yields the HOMO of H2.
