Passive Immunoprophylaxis for the Protection of the Mother and Her Baby: Insights from In Vivo Models of Antibody Transport

Area under the curve (AUC) of a hepatitis B immune globulin (HBIG) product in pregnant and nonpregnant guinea pigs. HBIG was administered intravenously at a dose 50 or 100 IU/kg (~3.5 and 7 mg/kg) in pregnant guinea pigs at the end of gestation (GD); age-matched nonpregnant animals served as controls. Human IgG exhibits lower AUC when it is administered at the end of pregnancy compared to nonpregnant animals, independent of dose; AUC shown as mean ± SEM, (Bonferroni post hoc analysis).
