Curcumin Provides Hepatoprotection against Amoebic Liver Abscess Induced by Entamoeba histolytica in Hamster: Involvement of Nrf2/HO-1 and NF-κB/IL-1β Signaling Pathways

Experimental protocols of amoebic liver infection in hamster. (a) Intrahepatic inoculation: hamsters were pretreated 10 days with curcumin (150 mg/kg, p.o., daily) before intrahepatic infection ( trophozoites), until sacrifice; 5 animals were sacrificed at 12 h and 5 more at 48 h after amoebic infection. (b) Intraportal infection: the animals were pretreated 20 days with curcumin (150 mg/kg, p.o., daily) before intraportal infection ( trophozoites) and continued the same treatment until sacrifice.
