Covarying Shell Growth Parameters and the Regulation of Shell Shape in Marine Bivalves: A Case Study on Tellinoidea

The differential growth index ρ plotted against the apical angle α: a strong negative covariance is recorded within each of the two studied bivalves genera, Donax and Tellina. (N.B.: similar patterns of negative covariation between α and ρ are observed, as well, within the other, smaller genus belonging to Tellinoidea: Arcopagia, Gari, Macoma; Béguinot, unpublished results).
