Supplementary Material

The Supplementary Material presents at first one of the alginate beads loaded with potential probiotic Pseudoalteromonas sp. MLms_gA3 cells (figure S1), which were applied towards V. anguillarum cells (for results see section 3.3). A biofilm formation of V. anguillarum on a ceramic tile which was incubated for 28 days in sterilised seawater was not detected by SEM-analysis (figure S2, right). Nevertheless, a formation of V. anguillarum cell aggregates in the sea water was not excluded. The sea water was inoculated with precultures of Pseudoalteromonas sp. MLms_gA3 and V. anguillarum. The optical density of the precultures with the associated viable cell counts was determined to adjust the desired cell concentrations of Pseudoalteromonas sp. MLms_gA3 and V. anguillarum in the test tubes with sterilised sea water (table 1).
