The absorption spectra of (a) SiO2-APTMS(RITC) and (c) SiO2-DETAS(RITC) nanoparticles prepared with various amounts of surface modification ligands, (b) and (d) relative intensity plots for each case clearly showing the absorption from chemically attached RITC units was increased as a function of the amount of APTMS used for the surface modification and seemed to reach the saturation point at around the mixing ratio of 1 : 0.05. 0.5 mL of SiO2-APTMS(RITC) or 0.3 mL of SiO2-DETAS(RITC) was diluted into 5 mL of ethanol for the absorption measurements.
