Detection of magnetically separated bacteria using surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS). In this test, gold-coated magnetic core NPs functionalized with bacterium-specific antibodies (MnFe3O4@Au-antibody) are used to treat a sample containing bacteria of interest. SERS probes the nanoprobe–bacteria aggregation after it has been magnetically separated and altered with antibody synthesized gold nanorods (Au NR-antibody).
