Significant increase of the TFT (tear ferning test) score in VKC (vernal keratoconjunctivitis) patients, 2.43 ± 0.80 SD, vs. controls, 1.17 ± 0.40 SD () (a). Increase in the goblet cells density, though not statistically significant, 30 ± 20 SD cells/field in VKC patients, vs. controls, 25 ± 11 SD cells/field (b). The concentration of MUC5AC does not show significant differences between VKC patients, 4,103.33 ± 286.35 SD pg/mL, and controls, 3,795.40 ± 837.44 SD pg/mL (c).
