Description
It is becoming increasingly important to obtain best possible refractive results in any case of a cataract surgery. In addition to so-called premium IOLs such as multifocal/trifocal lenses and enhanced depth of focus (EDOF) lenses, there are also monofocal and monofocal+ lenses of various manufacturers which have certain advantages and disadvantages.
At the beginning of a market launch and short after first approvals, ophthalmic surgeons must rely on advertising and data from companies. It takes some time until clinical experience and long-term data is available. Therefore, in vitro examinations on the optical bench are very important. Measurements of the modulation transfer function (MTF) and Strehl can be used to make a statement about the quality of an IOL. Furthermore, wavefront measurements are becoming increasingly important, especially in evaluating optic design features of premium IOLs. USAF Test Targets are a great way to show the quality of the IOL as well as possible differences between optic design elements.
The aim of this Special Issue is to collect high-quality publications on this subject from all over the world, to obtain a good overview of various modern IOLs and their optical principles with advantages and disadvantages. Original research and review articles are welcome.
