Ocular Surface Disease: Advances in Diagnostics and Therapeutics

Description

Ocular surface disease includes a variety of complex pathologies such as Stevens-Johnson syndrome, mucous membrane pemphigoid, limbal stem cell insufficiency, dry eye disease, ocular graft-versus-host disease, and many others with the common clinical feature of ocular surface failure, resulting in inflammatory and infectious complications with potentially severe visual loss. Early diagnosis and effective treatment of ocular surface disease-related conditions require high level of expertise and are often extremely challenging posing difficult dilemmas to clinicians.

The current issue aims to attract original research studies, of both experimental and clinical interests, on modern diagnostics and therapeutic approaches on ocular surface disease-related pathologies, adding a valuable contribution to our existing knowledge in the field. We especially welcome submissions related to novel diagnostic tests and new therapeutic strategies or new surgical techniques, in the hope that they will facilitate more effective diagnosis and improve our treatment outcomes. Moreover, we would encourage comprehensive review articles which describe the current state of the art, increasing our understanding of ocular surface disease.

Potential topics include but are not limited to the following:

  • Mucous membrane pemphigoid
  • Ocular cicatricial disease
  • Stevens-Johnson syndrome
  • Dry eye disease
  • Meibomian gland dysfunction
  • Limbal stem cell insufficiency
  • Ocular graft-versus-host disease
  • Neuropathic cornea
  • Recurrent corneal erosion syndrome
  • Corneal dystrophies and degenerations
