Flexible and/or Stretchable Sensor Systems

Description

With recent advancements in the field of wearable devices based on Internet of Things (IoT), flexible and stretchable sensor systems have gained significance as an important subset of the field of sensors. Their impact ranges from advanced healthcare and wearable diagnostics to military and aerospace applications. Indeed, several key challenges such as material selection, scalable fabrication, reliability, and cost need to be solved to ascertain ubiquitous adoption of such systems. This special issue aims to publish high quality, high impact, and original research articles and review articles focusing on flexible and stretchable sensor devices as well as drive circuitry and overall systems. Articles based on polymer substrates and/or flexible thin film substrates are especially welcome. Further, the editors welcome articles with a focus on the overall system with in-field test results. All the articles should be original and should not be under consideration with any other peer-review publications.

Potential topics include but are not limited to the following:

  • Fabrication processes for flexible and/or stretchable sensors
  • Drive circuitry architectures best suited for flexible and/or stretchable sensors
  • Interface and integration techniques best suited for flexible and/or stretchable sensors
  • Large scale manufacturing of flexible and/or stretchable sensor systems
  • Reliability of flexible and/or stretchable sensor systems
  • Mechanics, modeling, and simulation of flexible and/or stretchable sensors
  • Testing and characterization methodologies for flexible and/or stretchable sensors
  • Device to device, cycle to cycle variation in flexible and/or stretchable sensors
  • Flexible and/or stretchable sensors for healthcare applications
  • Flexible and/or stretchable sensors for IoT applications
