Specific Conditions for Resveratrol Neuroprotection against Ethanol-Induced Toxicity

Figure 2

Astrocyte variation in viability after 1 h of pretreatment with various concentrations of cis-resveratrol (a) or trans-resveratrol (b) followed by a 3-day exposure to 20 mM ethanol in presence of resveratrol. Determinations were made directly after the exposure or after 24 h of recovery in fresh culture medium. Cytotoxicity was determined by MTT assay, and control without resveratrol and ethanol represents 100% viability. Data shown were obtained in a typical experiment representative of three independent experiments and are expressed as mean ± SEM, 𝑛 = 5 ( 𝑃 < 0 . 0 1 resveratrol-treated cells versus control, 𝑃 < 0 . 0 0 1 ethanol exposed cells versus control, 𝑃 < 0 . 0 5 , Res + ethanol treated cells versus control ethanol, Mann-Whitney U test). Cell exposure conditions are detailed in Section 2.
