Alterations in brain water content in control group ( ), SAH group ( ), SAH + vehicle group ( ), and SAH + progesterone group ( ). The brain water content was increased significantly at 48 h after SAH. The progesterone treatment markedly reduced brain water content. No difference of brain water content was detected between SAH and SAH + vehicle groups * versus control group, # versus SAH + vehicle group, ns versus SAH group.
