Berberine Protects against Palmitate-Induced Endothelial Dysfunction: Involvements of Upregulation of AMPK and eNOS and Downregulation of NOX4

The effects of berberine on eNOS mRNA expression in HUVECs exposed to palmitate. HUVECs were cultured in RPMI-1640 containing 0.5 mmol/L palmitate and treated with 1.25, 2.5, and 5 μmol/L berberine for 24 h. Total RNA was extracted and RT-PCR was performed. All values were normalized to 100% for the value of the control and were expressed as the percentage of the control. Data are mean ± S.E.M. The control group was not stimulated with 0.5 mmol/L palmitate. All presented results are representative of at least 3 independent experiments. * versus control group. # versus palmitate treated group.
