The effect of diabetes and orally administered CMC 2.5 on blood glucose levels. Male Sprague-Dawley rats () were injected i.v. with streptozotocin (STZ) 70 mg/kg to induce diabetes, as described by us previously. STZ-diabetic rats were daily administered by oral gavage CMC 2.5 (100 mg/kg) for 3 weeks. At the end of the treatment protocol, rats were sacrificed by exsanguination; blood samples were then collected and analyzed for blood glucose levels by the blood glucose monitoring system. NDC: nondiabetic control; UD: untreated diabetic.
