MMP-3 Contributes to Nigrostriatal Dopaminergic Neuronal Loss, BBB Damage, and Neuroinflammation in an MPTP Mouse Model of Parkinson’s Disease

MPTP-induced neurotoxicity is attenuated in the striatum of MMP-3−/− mouse brain. Striatal tissues obtained from the same animals as used in Figure 1 were immunostained with TH antibody for DA fibers. Animals were treated with PBS as a control (a and c) and MPTP (b and d). (e) Bars represent optical density of TH-ip fibers in the striatum. Scale bar, 250 μm. Five to six animals were used for each experimental group. Two-way ANOVA with Bonferroni post hoc test ,    ,   , significantly different from PBS-injected MMP-3+/+ mice;   , significantly different from MPTP-injected MMP-3+/+ mice.
