TNF-Like Weak Inducer of Apoptosis Aggravates Left Ventricular Dysfunction after Myocardial Infarction in Mice

Deleterious effects of recombinant sTWEAK on myocardial function and survival after MI. (a) Recombinant sTWEAK (or vehicle (NaCL)) was injected every 3 days i.p. at a dose of 200 μg/kg body weight for each injection starting 1 day after induction of myocardial infarction in mice. (b) Treatment of mice with recombinant sTWEAK for 28 days resulted in significantly increased mortality after myocardial infarction compared to control animals (𝑃=0.039 sTWEAK versus NaCL). No changes in the degree of myocardial hypertrophy could be observed. (c) Echocardiographic analysis revealed reduced left ventricular function and increased left ventricular end-diastolic diameters (LVEDD) (both 𝑃<0.05; sham + NaCL 𝑛=4; sham + rsTWEAK 𝑛=6; LAD + NaCL 𝑛=12; LAD + rsTWEAK 𝑛=20).
