Inflammation as a Keystone of Bone Marrow Stroma Alterations in Primary Myelofibrosis

Primary myelofibrosis: the dual complementarity of hematopoietic and stromal stem cells. PMF is characterized by medullar and extramedullary clonal expansion of hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) and dystrophic megakaryocytes (MKs), altogether with myelofibrosis and osteosclerosis involving fibroblasts and osteoblasts, as well as neoangiogenesis. These elements stand together by growth factors and inflammatory cytokines mediated interactions [6].
