Clinical Trial and In Vitro Study for the Role of Cartilage and Synovia in Acute Articular Infection

(a) shows that synovial IL-1β levels were statistically significantly higher in patients with an endoprosthetic implant (no cartilage) than in those with normal joints (with cartilage). (b) demonstrates the in vitro model’s corresponding data. Similarly, IL-1β concentrations were statistically significantly higher in the setting without chondrocytes.
