ROS-Mediated NLRP3 Inflammasome Activity Is Essential for Burn-Induced Acute Lung Injury

Figure 7

Model of ROS-mediated NLRP3 inflammasome activation in burn-induced acute lung injury. Burn injury activates ROS in macrophages and in turn the elevated ROS promote the activation of NLRP3 inflammasome and subsequent IL-1β and IL-18 secretion. IL-1β and IL-18 act as inflammation initiating cytokines and magnify inflammatory response. The amplified inflammatory responses lead to ALI. Blocking NLRP3 or ROS activation can alleviate ALI.
