<div>(a) Mean African Dust Storm duration in days for the period from 2000 to 2012; (b) Monthly mean (January to December) of African Dust Storm duration calculated for the entire period from 2000 to 2012; and (c) mean PM<sub>10</sub> concentration (<i>µ</i>g/m<sup>3</sup>) in the urban site (Guaynabo, PR) during the representative year of 2004. Particulate matter from this year was used to perform the<i> in vitro</i> experiments.</div>
